I got the Odyssey running very quickly, inside-out is easy to setup. For BoX, that's not an issue thankfully at this time, but there are other enjoyable VR titles that this could come into play. All these new Windows Mixed Reality headsets talk about SteamVR support, but it's not clear how well (or if) they will play an Oculus exclusive title just yet. Lastly, I want to see a little more uniformity between SteamVR, Oculus Home and the OpenVR api's so people wouldn't have to keep using a 3rd party emulator (like ReVive) to run a title because it wasn't released for the system their headset may support. The Odyssey's better lens quality, being AMOLED's, should also produce an image with much richer color, contrast and deeper blacks. I did see one report that the screendoor effect was much reduced, although that's never really been an issue for me. Should be pretty noticeable since the Field of View is the same at 110 degrees. I also want to know how much clearer the 1440 x 1600 (per lens) image would be in the headset as opposed to the Vive and Oculus's current 1080x1200 resolution. It needs to exceed what the Rift can do, not just equal it. Like you, I want to see some more detailed reviews of people testing the unit in a wide range of games and situations (sitting, standing, room scale) before I hand over my money. Initial reports say the quality of the image and tracking during a VERY brief hands-on yesterday with the unit in a few select titles was on par with the Rift. I agree, taking a more wait and see approach I think is the best way forward while things stabilize a bit. Oculus connect is happening soon too, so there could be more exciting news to follow. Love my CV1, but I'd also love the better res. I'll wait for some real world reviews before I consider pulling the trigger, but I'm excited about this news. There is also the PIMAX 8k y 5k to consider when they release it around December I think. But we will not know until the compatibility update is made and the early users make some reviews.īelieve me, I follow every hardware review of any VR HEADSET that appears, I want to jump to the VR bandwagon with any of the new models that proves to be really better than OCULUS/VIVE version 1.0 Some aspects maybe will be better on the mass product series, maybe later drivers/software will improve the tracking. But the cons are the price is not that different than Oculus (if you want the controllers), the controllers are a little worse than Vive and need to be in front of you so the 2 cameras on the helmet can pick them up, the screens seems to have some better quality than OCULUS/VIVE but at the same time some bad perks, the tracking is not as quick and good as with Oculus/VIVE sensor stations is "almost" according to the reviewers. There are pros like lighter helmet, better head adjustment, works in 60 and 90fps modes(low end/high end PCs), no external sensors to put around, a little better resolution. I already read severals for 3 or 4 of the variants and they are not conclusive, at least for simulators. Wait for some reviews using GAMES like ELITE, Forza, Valkyrie, anything where you are inside a cockpit when the STEAMVR games are available. They will update Windows to support these HMD's mid-October but only for MS approved apps and games. As BeastyBaiter said they will be compatible with STEAMVR, but Microsoft didn't say WHEN they will release the Windows update that would make that possible.
